The Portuguese forward was in lethal form against Sevilla in Cardiff, scoring twice and showing little sign of the injuries which slowed him down at the World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo has set his sights on retaining the Champions League following Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Sevilla in the Uefa Super Cup in Cardiff.
Ronaldo struck in either half for Carlo Ancelotti's side to guarantee the win and showed few signs of the knee and thigh trouble which blighted the end of last season as well as the World Cup.
"Madrid are going to be the first team [to retain the Champions League] I hope," Ronaldo told the press.
"I believe that the players Real Madrid bought - Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez and Keylor Navas - they're going to give more support to the team and more quality.
"I am very glad for the quality we have in the squad. We're going to try to win all the trophies. It's good to win this trophy to give confidence to the team."
Ronaldo latched on to a Gareth Bale cross after 30 minutes to give the Champions League holders the lead before a devastating solo effort in the second half put the game beyond Sevilla's reach.
"It's an important trophy, the Super Cup, so we start on the right foot," he said. "We played better than Sevilla. I scored two goals and I'm coming back from my injury so it's a perfect night so I feel very pleased for that. My team-mates helped me a lot to score the goals so it was a fantastic night."
With Bale, Karim Benzema and James in the ranks, Ronaldo believes that Real Madrid now have the "potential to be the best" and singled out the Welshman for praise following his successful homecoming.
"He's amazing," Ronaldo said. "He looks strong, he looks fast and he's a very important player for us. I'm really happy for his performance tonight. He had a fantastic season last year.
"He doesn't surprise me, he's shown his quality week by week so it's fantastic to have Gaz with us, to be part of the system of Real Madrid and I'm very glad to play with him too because he understands me and I understand him. He plays fantastic passes so I love it."
Real Madrid are fighting for another trophy next Tuesday when they take on reigning Liga champions and local rivals Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Supercopa.
"Let's see next Tuesday against Atletico Madrid what we're going to do," said Ronaldo.
