Sixers acquire Hasheem Thabeet from Thunder

The Sixers on Tuesday acquired center Hasheem Thabeet from the Oklahoma City Thunder for cash considerations, a league source confirmed to CSNPhilly.com's John Gonzalez. The deal was first reported by ESPN's Marc Stein.
The Sixers do not intend to use Thabeet -- they will quickly waive him instead. Thabeet is not expected to be with the Sixers past the end of the month.
Essentially, the Sixers are renting out cap space. Oklahoma City gains a trade exception in the deal, as well as a top-55 protected draft pick in the upcoming draft. That pick, which some have termed a "phantom pick," was used only because the Sixers had to include something in the deal.
What do the Sixers gain? Cash and good will. It works financially for them because Thabeet has a non-guaranteed contract, so they will not be on the hook for his salary after waiving him. And GM Sam Hinkie is essentially doing the Thunder a favor that may aid his own team in the future
